Clean water, sanitation and hygiene are crucial ingredients to the health and well-being of communities around the world.

Where clean water is not present — a health crisis is. Tragically, in Yemen, more than 14 million people don’t have access to clean water, depriving them of a foundational block of health.

We celebrated World Water Day with the students of Al-Hamdani school in Sayan, Yemen

Under this year’s World Water Day slogan, Leaving No One Behind, International Medical Corps collaborated with community leaders and volunteers to organize two celebrations in Yemen for World Water Day.

Speeches and entertainment at the Gaffar Ben Abi Taleb School focused on the importance of providing safe water to everyone worldwide.

The celebrations included gatherings at our program sites, which included promoting good hygiene, sanitation, safe and clean water storage, and children’s competitions and entertainment focusing on good water and hygiene practices.

Clean water and good hygiene practices are essential to the prevention of disease in Yemen, where water-borne diseases like cholera can quickly and even fatally spread through communities.

Our staff in Ibb, Yemen, also celebrated World Water Day.

International Medical Corps operates emergency water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programs in Yemen to address this urgent need. Our WASH work includes supplying nearly 50 health facilities with regular deliveries of chlorinated water, enabling them to remain open to serve their communities.

Our staff provided hygiene training for students at the Al-Hamdani school in Sayan, Yemen.

And because we know that training can save lives, we provide communities with health and hygiene education, as well as the supplies needed to prevent the spread of communicable and infectious diseases.

Access to safe and sufficient water and improved sanitation, along with good hygiene, are crucial to human health, well-being, dignity and development. In Yemen, we’re working to provide these most basic human needs, no matter how challenging the conditions.
